TRANSFORMERS: Revisiting the Characters of Generation 1 - WEIRDWOLF

TRANSFORMERS:  Revisiting the Characters of Generation 1

"My pleasure with my enemy's pain comes." - Weirdwolf, 1987.

DECEPTICON
Name - WEIRDWOLF
Function - Tracker
Series Debut - 1987 / Wave 4
Sub-Group - Headmaster

BACKGROUND...

"WEIRD"wolf...  Okay, so what exactly makes him weird?  Well, apparently he is a few bricks short of a full load.  His Tech-Spec describes him as being mean and cruel, but it also says he tends to talk to himself... in a "sing-song backwards way".  So apparently while he is in the midst of battle, he's amusing himself by throwing little rhymes and sonnets together about how he's going to stomp his enemies.  It would definitely be bizarre to be engaging in a fight with someone that does this.

I guess you have to consider that Weirdwolf IS a Headmaster!  He is binary-bonded to a Nebulan named Monzo, who transforms into his head.  So in robot mode, there is literally someone IN HIS HEAD!  So in all fairness... maybe he's talking to him?  Monzo fits well with Weirdwolf as he has a violent nature as well.  At one time, he was a professional hyperwrestler, but now he is the owner of an underground nightclub.

Obviously, Weirdwolf's alt-mode is a wolf.  As a tracker for the Decepticons, he can utilize multiple sensors in his "wolf" nose to stalk his prey.  He can also make a jump of .8 miles!

MY THOUGHTS...

I didn't buy many Headmasters back in the day, but I did pick up Weirdwolf!  I thought the "tracker" wolf idea was kind of cool, and the tail that turns into a sword, but the original figure was a bit too blocky-looking as a robot.

Questions...  Does Monzo STILL own the nightclub now that he works with the Decepticons?  As a business man, does he have issues making it to the next battle on time?  What the world does Weirdwolf do while Monzo is at work?  Does he gets calls on his cell while he's going toe-to-toe with an Autobot Warrior, with one of his employees asking who can cover the counter tonight because someone didn't show up to work?  Also, why didn't they name the Nebulan "Mongo" instead?  He was a tough character too!  I want to know these things!

For a stand-in for the original character, we are going to fast-forward to the Titans Return series in 2016 where we get an update in Wolfwire (apparently they lost the copywrite of Weirdwolf).  This figure is a fantastic remake of the character.  He has more of a sleek, fast look that you need for a tracker-wolf.  You also have the crazy-exaggerated sword that looks menacing!  Top it off with some great articulation and this new figure is a complete win!

I had fun taking pictures of Weirdwolf while on a family Christmas trip to beautiful Brown County in Indiana a few years ago.  Hey, I always choose a couple action figures to take on vacation!  Doesn't everyone?
