TRANSFORMERS:  Revisiting the Characters of Generation 1

"The thrill is in the journey." - Topspin, 1985.

AUTOBOT
Name - TOPSPIN
Function - Land & Sea Assault
Series Debut - 1985 / Wave 2
Sub-Group - Jumpstarter

BACKGROUND...

Topspin is an adventurer!  Since arriving on Earth, he has thoroughly  enjoyed exploring this big, new planet.  To him, conquering Earth's various types of terrain is as big of a rush as that of defeating the Decepticons.

Among his fellow Autobots on Earth, he is one of the few that retains his Cybertronic alt-mode.  His vehicle form is adapt to travel through the air or on the water.  In the air he can reach 300 mph, thanks to his powerful rear jet engines.  On water, he uses his front pontoons and engines to travel 80 mph.

In vehicle or robot mode, he can use 2 high-voltage electric cannons on his wing-tips, as well as 2 built-in hand lasers.  In robot mode, he wields a twin-ion impulse rifle.

MY THOUGHTS...

I got Twin Twist and Topspin back-to-back.  I thought these two figures were AWESOME!  Transformers that transformed on their own???  How cool is that?  I remember going to a sleepover at my friend Knightmare's (from One Word Reviews) house.  He had a large vinyl kitchen floor.  I remember us both running these two across the floor, trying to set up obstacles for them and all kinds of fun!

Standing in for the original G1 Topspin is no one!  This is an original Topspin.  Not mine... I don't even remember how I got him.  He's seen better days but he is still cool and brings back fun memories of getting the Jumpstarters so many years ago!

I believe both Topspin and Twin Twist were both revisited in the Titans Return line.  I never saw them at retail, but with the pics I saw, it looks like they turned out pretty cool!

(Information on the character's lore was taken from the Sunbow Transformers cartoon series, including the Movie and the figure's original Tech-Spec.)
