TRANSFORMERS: Revisiting The Characters Of Generation 1 - BLOT

TRANSFORMERS:  Revisiting the Characters of Generation 1

"I'm not as bad as you think - I'm worse!" - Blot, 1987.

DECEPTICON
Name - BLOT
Function - Foot Soldier
Series Debut - 1987 / Wave 4
Sub-Group - Terrorcon

BACKGROUND...

Let's just cut to the chase here - Blot is a slob!!!  There's just no nice way to say it.  Apparently, he oozes smelly grease and lubricant wherever he goes.  His Tech-Spec describes him as the "most disgusting of all Transformers!"  That's saying a lot - Yikes!!!  To add insult to injury, he is also not the brightest bulb in the box with an intelligence rating of 2.

Blot's team - the Terrorcons, is a group of 5 Decepticons who have alt-modes of bizarre, terrifying beasts.  Blot transforms into a strange two-legged, hunched over creature with long lumbering arms with claws.  His color scheme is primarily light and dark purple.

In his creature mode, Blot can breathe fire and use his claws to climb any wall.  He is also armed with a "slime gun", which fires blasts of "corrosive liquid".  This weapon can be used as a pistol in robot mode as well.  In the rare occasion of the Terrorcons being outmatched, the 5 could merge together to form the powerful - Abominus!

MY THOUGHTS...

The Terrorcons first appeared in Series 3 of the Generation 1 cartoon series, though they weren't released until the following year.  They were given no real introduction, so I remember being a little confused of who this strange group was.  All the Terrorcons were portrayed as brutish, hulking monsters with little to no intelligence.  I thought the contrast of the futuristic Technobot vehicles vs. the nightmarish Terrorcon beasts was a fun element to the toyline.

In 1987, I wasn't a big fan of the Headmasters direction, but there were plenty of figures that were more on par with the previous 3 series' and I went after those!  As such, I bought up all the Terrorcons pretty quickly.  Blot was a favorite!  I liked his color scheme and he was just a fun character to have!  I mean, when your team of Autobots sees this freaky-looking, fire-breathing, hulking, stinky, oozing beast stomping towards you... What are you going to do???

Standing in for the original G1 Blot is the Power of the Primes version from 2018.  This is a great new version of the figure!

I clipped this off the packaging of one of my original G1 Terrorcons back in the day!  I still have it!

(Information on the character's lore was taken from the Sunbow Transformers cartoon series, including the Movie and the figure's original Tech-Spec.)
