One & Done - DOGFIGHT

MUDFIGHTER PILOT - DOGFIGHT

The G.I. Joe Team took to the skies in 1983 with their first jet - the Skystriker and it's pilot Ace!  In the years after, the Joes continued to add to their air-arm with more sleek aircraft that could go faster, higher or carried more payload.  In 1989, however, they went the opposite way.  Now they were adding a prop-driven aircraft that was slower, smaller and flew lower.

This smaller plane was called the Mudfighter and it was more focused on bombing rather than recon, stealth or air-to-air combat.  For such an aircraft, the Joes needed someone who not only was an excellent pilot, but was also a natural at hitting the targets below.  That pilot was Dogfight!

Dogfight's file card explains that he is exceptionally skilled at hitting a target.  Thanks to his amazing depth perception as well as hand/eye coordination, Dogfight can hit nearly anything.  In his younger years, he was basically banned from every fair or carnival in the state of Alabama because he was winning so many bears at the midway games.  As an adult, his targets are now Cobra tanks instead of wooden bottles.

The Dogfight figure has a pretty cool look with his hat and headphones on his head.  He has silver sunglasses and a big, bushy moustache.  He wears a brown jacket over a white shirt and has blue jeans.  On his right leg, he has a pistol with an odd holster that starts at his belt and goes down his leg to the pistol.

Aside from the Mudfighter itself, Dogfight had one accessory - a pistol.

I like the Dogfight figure - he is not the flashiest guy out there, but he has an interesting look.  I don't know if it's him being a pilot or the moustache and glasses - but I always had a feeling he's cut from the same cloth as Wild Bill.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, Wild Bill was a great character and there are enough differences between the two.  I would give Dogfight a 3 out of 5 stuffed bears!  He is a good figure, but not fantastic...

I never had Dogfight and the Mudfighter back in the day as they came out when my friends and I were walking away from G.I. Joe.  I do recall, however, being at Children's Palace with my good buddy Deathwish.  The store was going out of business and they had that Mudfighter/HISS II 2-pack on clearance.  Deathwish was always all about the ninjas or jets... and he did not have this particular aircraft.  So he went ahead and purchased it.  It was too good a deal to pass up!  Our days of G.I. Joe battles may have been behind us, but those vehicles still looked cool on the shelf!  And by the way... the pictures here are indeed from Deathwish's collection.  I don't know if it's the exact same ones, but they are his!  Thanks DW!

So did you have Dogfight and his Mudfighter?  What did you think of them?  Do you think Dogfight is Wild Bill's cousin?  Hit me with your thoughts...
